Going by the pictures in my bird book I believe these first two shots to be a Broad-Winged Hawk. I got only one shot of him facing me before he flew a little ways away and landed in another tree with his back to me.

1. Cropped, resized, levels and FM. ISO 400, 1/250th, F5.6, Partial metering.

Thanks Walter. I was using the Canon 20D, with 100-400L and Tamron 1.4X TC.
