Thanks for the kind words! It has been colder than normal. I live in Northern Virginia just west of Washington DC. This was shot just a couple of weeks ago.

tstovall,

Ya, I've been a semi-serious birder for a couple of years now. What I'd give to soar like a raptor. Now that looks like fun!

Up here in Mass, I don't want to think about the temp. I can finally see over the snowbanks from the last foot we got. At least the skiing was good.

You've got more spare money than I, that is for sure. After buying a house last summer I've been watching the money. I'd love to get both of those VR lenses. The 24-110VR could be interesting as well, but I'm holding out for reviews. Everyone seems to love the 70-200. The only downside is the price. The lens it replaced was a fair amount cheaper than the new VR one. I'm not sure what they were thinking about in this economy. The older one was already expensive!

If you can live with the shorter reach, you'll love the faster focus of the 70-200. With a good TC, it matches the f-stop of the 400 on the long end (and you still get IF & AF-S!) But it's more expensive than the 80-400, so I'm not going there just yet. Add in the cost of a nikon TC and we're talking more money than my mortgage payment!
