I was going to title this series, "Horned Grebe, Sparrow and Mockingbird gang up and kill a Peregrine Falcon. That would certainly get attention...

Just a Song Sparrow fueling up...

This pair of Horned Grebes never got closer than a 100 yards, so maybe next week?

Mockingbirds often spend the Winter in Brooklyn. For that matter there's a crazed Blue Heron who spends the Winter here. This is characteristic of this bird. SOME actually don't seem to migrate and love the cold.

While leaving Floyd Bennet Field I came upon this Peregrine perched on the street barrier over looking a field...

I was unable to get closer than 75 yards, but this is the second time I've seen him here and I intend to "haunt" the vicinity until I get some good shots.

Note on this close crop that this guy is wearing not one, not two, but THREE bands. So someone else is keeping an eye on him.

The mockingbird is so beautifully photographed that I don't even mind the tail being cut off just a touch. It brings the bird closer to admire. Wonderful. The raptor shots are also extremely neat. Nice stuff, Dave.

Thanks Norm - I saw the Peregrine before, and thought it was a Cooper's. But now, as they say in the trade, I know where he lives. Peregrines often Winter here - So if the someone smiles on my endeavors, I should get some more shots....

The Mockingbirds of course are all year residents...
