On a recommendation I took a trip to the national aviary in Pittsburgh. They had some very interesting birds in a 'rainforest' and 'marsh' section. But, I thought I would share some of the eagle pics first. Two lovely balds, both with severe disabilities (one has an amputated wing).

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"I didn't clean up the background, but you can really see the amputation on this one...

It's much easier in an aviary where the bird isn't going to fly off :-)

Actually about 40 minutes from my house - in a state park - there is a new pair of bald eagles that have stolen a nest from a 'colony' of blue herons. There are litterally dozens of the heron nests and a few weeks back the eagles took over one. The Herons are not back yet so it will be very interesting to see if the eagles stay. I've gone there several times in the last few weeks but never managed to be there when the eagles are. Hopefully they will stay and lay eggs - offering bird watchers and photogs a real chance to photograph them - not a common ability where I live (Ohio, United States). Fortunately it is on land managed by the state local and national parks so they've closed the area near the nests down. The lookout area they have setup is a stretch with my 100-400 plus 1.4x TC. So, if Eric wants to lend me his 600mm I'd be very greatful
