Hi there

great pics but was just wondering how far away were you from the subjects

the reason i'm asking is that i have got a sigma 80-400mm lens and i can't seem to get close enough to the subject at 400mm.

are the pics cropped even so they are nice and sharp. are prime lens better then zoom lenses for sharpness.

thanks

mark

Thanks mark and everyone else.

I also have 100-400L. I was very close to the subjects in all these shots. I was using 1.4xTC on my 400mm prime for the bluebird and swallow shots. The swallow shots are almost full-frame, I was that close.

The last night heron shot is also full-frame. He flew right on top of me.

Primes are, all else being equal, better than zooms.

But to add some appreciation to Bobby's shots, keep in mind that the best TC cuts down on clarity of the image...

hi all

i too just can't close enough to take decent pics.

They are great shots especially with the TC.

I have been struggling with my 80-400 lens to get decnt pics but i think i'm getting the hang of it. It certainly does help when the sun comes out.

once again great pics haven't really got a fovourite they are all pretty damn good well done.

Alittle late, but wow! Excuse my ignorance but is the lense expensive? Ive decided to upgrade to a digital SLR and the Canon 30D is it, will need to save my pennies though. The clarity is remarkable.
