Logan, i have the Canon 500mm f/4 L IS. I use autofocus probably 99% of the time unless it's a bit too dark and the lens keeps hunting for focus due to lack of contrast. It's a really nice lens and I also use the 1.4X TC with it about 90% of the time i use it. It's big and heavy but fairly easy to hand hold for 30 seconds or so. hope that answers your question.

yea thanks... i wasnt sure if you were using a prime or if it was a zoom (ie sigma 50-500 or tamron 200-500)
