Nice pictures. My book on North American Ducks tells me that 77 percent of new born Shovelers die the first year. It ain't easy being a Duck...

Wow, I didn't know the odds were that bad. Is it just the Shovelers or do the other species have the same percentage of loss?

The losses vary, but yes 70 percent and more is the norm for just about all Ducks. Everyone likes Duck. And little chicks get eaten by everything from fish, and snapping turtles to Gulls.

Dave.
