Must be a different way of sunbathing. A few days ago I saw a Mockingbird do the same thing, only it was stretched out on the ground. A few minutes later I saw a Mourning Dove do the same thing in about the same spot. Ididn't think it would be to feel coolness from the ground as it seemed to be too hot for that.

I believe he is rubbing (scratching) himself as I have a series of one doing the same thing in some sand on the road .Perhaps getting off some mites or such ? Just a guess of course.
