They like to perch in the cherry tree waiting on a feeder to free up. We are feeding a gallon of nectar /day.

Some of the best pics of hummingbirds I have ever seen! The last few years I've been trying to get some photos of them, but I don't have anything like this. Do you mind me asking what your set up is, and how far away you were from them? These just blow me away - great job!

MVASteve, they are common in my area during the breeding season. They start showing up in April and then back to South America around September.


Ride16, I use a Nikon D-70s with a Nikon 300mm f4. I was set up about 8 feet for these shots. Some folks like to use flash to show the iridescent colors and add pop to their pics. but I prefer the natural light.

Wow, great photos. A gallon a day...I refill 4 cups every other week! You must have a lot that are using your feeder. I keep hoping for more, but the male guards the feeder pretty well.

Excellent detail RDV. I couldn't imagine using a gallon of nectara day. You guys got me enthused.
