Foggy lake and dock

Hi! Not sure if I have ever used this forum before, but here goes... :)

I post a "similiar" picture in the Pentax forum, now I am posting this photo here as I could use any last minute help or suggestions of how to make this photo better. My wife wants me to print a few as a series... so I might have a few more "Dock and fog" pictures.

So, any suggestions as to how I should improve this photo... i.e., composition, colour, post-processing???

Thanks.

Ned

Hi guys and thanks for your input and suggestions!

Daniel, how did you get the land in the background to look so?

All the best.

Hi Ned! I used the Topaz plugin to photoshop.

I thought maybe selective monochrome would work, something like this.

Thanks! May I ask, how did you do the selective monochrome. I have been using "film" most of my life, now I am getting used to post-processing, but still have a lot to learn.

Thanks.

In this case, it was really easy- I selected the dock with magic wand tool, then inverted the selection and desaturated the rest, then merged the result with a two pixel soft edge. Used Photoimpact, but, IIRC, the procedure in Photoshop is just about the same.
There ae other ways, if the subject is more difficult, such as masking and using layers. The technique is more usually called selective color, and would probably have been more appropriate. There have been several threads here, and in the editors forum, with various ways of creating the effect.
