Your photo actually contains plenty of sky detail, it just needs to be brought out. Unfortunately, the JPG compression ruined a lot of the info in your reduced image so it looks a bit blocky, but it shows that the sky data is there. If you repost it at a very high quality level (like 95), or as a 24 bit PNG file, it could be restored much more cleanly.

If you want to know how to do it on your own using Photoshop, here's what I did:

1. Add a curves adjustment layer. Dip the curve downward in the middle, darkening the image overall and bringing out the blue in the sky. Also brighten the highlights a bit to make the brightest clouds white.

2. Duplicate the original layer and move it to the top layer.

3. Go into the Blending Options for the top layer. In the "Blend if" area, there are two slider bars. On the top slider bar, move the white slider arrow to the left a bit. Then alt click and drag the left half of the white arrow to separate it, and drag that further to the left.

4. A few spots in the foreground were likely darkened more than you'd want. Use a black paint brush and paint over those spots in the mask of the curves adjustment layer.

Can you post a less compressed version of the image? The blockiness in the sky is pretty apparent from the edit.

Or you could post the entire original image at a site like http://www.sharebig.com/

That ensures you get something worth printing.

i think corpsy did a very reasonable job there.

to make it more blue wouldnt be right as its obviously slightly overcast , and a more blue sky would look wrong

Here's what I was able to do with PhotoImpact X3. It's very affordable, only $69.95 new, or $49.95 upgrade. Not every job requires Photoshop.
