As a newbie to this stuff, this is what I've been looking for. Hope you guys will give this photo a try - or is it not worth the effort? All I did was resize and add to photobucket.

Here is my first attempt at it. I applied auto contrast adjustment, clarify, auto saturation adjustment in Paint Shop Pro 7. As an afterthought, I did a sharpen, also.

Here is a shot...just tried to bring out colors a bit and emphasize splashes of sunlight on the forest floor, esp in the foreground.

These are both nice improvements. Surf, glad you did decide to post! I love your avatar - much like my beloved missing Kitty.

Cal & dig,
Thanx for the attempts. Both are improvements, and I appreciate you describing how you made the changes. I'm still using the "auto" settings in Photoshop Elements 2.0. I'm going to play with it again, and post it for you guys to critique.

monkey, Thanx for the comments - there are times I would ALMOST let you have him, but at 16, he's set in his ways, and I guess I am too.;)

OK people,
I'm trying to learn, so negative comments are appreciated ALMOST as much as positive comments. :O
All I did was to lighten just a tad, a slight increase in saturation, and I auto sharpened.
This is an attempt to bring out the colors in the stumps without turning the greens "neon".

I tried to bring the stumps out as the most noticable thing in the photo

What did you do to darken the background and not the stumps?

Magnetic lassoed the stumps and worked on those alone, this was after I worked on the whole photo.
